The honest version of this list is short, because most of Brevard's beach towns either ban dogs outright or only allow them in a narrow window. Get this wrong and it's a real fine, not a warning. Here's what's actually current, not what a five-year-old blog post says.
Canova Beach Park, the real dog beach
3299 Highway A1A, Indian Harbour Beach. This is Brevard County's only officially designated dog beach, not a loosely-enforced stretch, an actual designated one. Dogs must stay leashed, and they need tags showing current license and rabies vaccination. It's free, no parking fee, open dawn to dusk. Bring your own bags; pick up after your dog. Statewide turtle-nesting rules, keep dogs off the dunes and away from any marked nest, still apply March through October even here.
Cocoa Beach, but only in this window
Cocoa Beach allows dogs on a specific stretch of sand, between 4th Street South and the north side of Murkshe Park, and only during set hours: 6 to 10am and 4 to 7pm standard time, shifting to 5 to 9pm during daylight saving. Leash can't exceed 10 feet. Outside that stretch or that window, it's not allowed, and Cocoa Beach's turtle-nesting rules carry a real fine, $50, for a violation between March 1 and October 31. This is a genuinely good option if your schedule matches those hours. It is not an all-day, anywhere-on-the-beach situation, and showing up at noon expecting otherwise gets you turned away or ticketed.
Where dogs are currently NOT allowed on the sand
Two towns worth calling out specifically, because the information out there is stale. Satellite Beach ran a four-month pilot from January through April 2026 letting leashed dogs on the beach early mornings. That pilot ended, and as of this writing dogs are prohibited again while the city council reviews a permanent rule. Melbourne Beach has a standing posted notice: no dogs on the beach. If you see an older article listing either of these as dog-friendly, it's out of date. Check the specific city's current page before you drive out.
Not the beach, but reliable
If you want a sure thing rather than a time window, Wickham Park in Melbourne (2500 Parkway Dr) has a real fenced dog park with separate large- and small-dog areas, open 9am to 7pm, current vaccine and license tags required. Cocoa Beach also runs a fenced dog park at Lori Wilson Park, no beach access there, but no time restrictions either.
Beach dog rules in Florida change with city council votes and turtle season, and I've seen at least one town flip its rule mid-year already. Confirm current hours with the specific city's parks department before you go, especially outside Canova Beach Park, which is the one constant on this list.
